What it can mean

Toothache can range from a dull ache to sharp, throbbing pain. Common causes include deep decay, a cracked tooth, an abscess or infection at the root, or gum problems. Pain that wakes you at night, or that lingers after hot or cold, usually means the nerve is involved.

Dental pain almost never resolves on its own — and early treatment is nearly always simpler and more comfortable.
